The Paramus United Winter Soccer Program is an extension of the fall soccer season and a chance to get better for the upcoming spring soccer season. Youth soccer players have an opportunity to continue their skills development during the off-season. The winter training program is comprised of three parts to develop all aspects of the soccer player; soccer training, indoor soccer games, speed and agility training.
The winter training program will have a progressive curriculum designed by our highly qualified trainers and coaches. The curriculum will challenge the players to ensure maximum success in a fun, fast-paced environment. Players will be encouraged to take chances and try new soccer skills, get many touches, and improve footwork, master first touch along with many other areas of individual skills development. The focus will be on the technical as well as tactical side of soccer with many coachable moments. Soccer training happens once a week (details for time and location will be come later). That begins in January and runs for 10 weeks.
The next part of the program will give each player an opportunity to take new and improved skills and test them out in game action. The winter indoor soccer season will be comprised of 10 games. The benefit of indoor soccer gives players fast paced games with minimal stoppages. Players will have more touches on the ball and will develop small group defending, attacking, and transition skills. Indoor games encourages quicker speed of play and gives more scoring opportunities due to the smaller field size.
The final phase of the Paramus United Winter Program is comprised of the Parisi speed and agility training. Simply put, soccer is a game of fitness, so it is important to be in the best shape possible. Fit soccer players communicate more on the soccer field. When you are tired, you tend to not talk at all as your body is trying to conserve energy to use it for running, passing and shooting. Soccer players need both speed and agility. Agility is how quickly you are able to change directions without affecting your balance. When soccer players have good agility, they can stop on a dime, change directions and keep moving in one fluid motion. Offensive players need to change directions a lot in order to keep the defense from getting comfortable. Agility will improve stop-and-go moves while keeping you balanced. With agility you will notice that it is a lot easier to improve your dribbling skills as you are properly balanced and are able to change directions. The speed part will give you the ability to run past your opponent and get to the 50-50 balls while being able to create space fast. On defense, with agility you will be able to better mark your opponent. You will be able to maintain your balance and quickly turn when the offensive player switches directions while staying close to the player. With speed a defender can quickly recover if they initially get beat by an offensive player’s move. Improved agility will help goalkeepers to quickly switch directions while the ball is moving around the box. You simply cannot make a double save without the proper balance and agility.
Paramus United encourages all players to attend the winter program as it will further develop the required technical, tactical, mental, and physical abilities to become a well-rounded soccer player.
